Freitag is definetly unique. Their collection of over 1,000 bags are guaranteed to be one-of-a-kind items that you won't find anywhere else. That's mainly because they're made of used truck tarpaulins. "We thought it would be nice to have a custom messenger bag made from one of those dirty, 100,000-mile truck tarpaulins. It would be unique, made only from recycled materials, and because tarps are tough and waterproof, the bag would be tough and waterproof too."
Perhaps one of the most fun things about these bags are that you can either buy a premade one, or cut out your own. That's right, using their computer program, The F-Cut, you can actually view the truck tarps and digitally cut out any piece you want (that is, as long as someone else hasn't claimed it first!). If you're a little lost on how the whole process works, you can use their guided tutorial which is sure to help even the most computer illiterate of users.
If you lack the designer eye for the F-Cut, then try browsing their ready-made bags. In my quest for the ultimate in eco-friendly gear, I learned that the company takes it a step further. They've got soccer balls and punching bags all made of truck tarps.
The only downside to these eco-friendly bags may be that they're based in Switzerland. This means that anyone outside of the area is going to have a tough time dealing with the costs of shipping and handling. Only a few USA cities are lucky enough to be graced with these stores.
